TIP OF THE DAY

Life getting you down?
When I was teaching Early Morning Seminary in Dallas, we taught the students that the answers to all of life's problems can be found in the scriptures.
Personal example: on 5-16-04 I was feeling stressed. My mother was kind of a challenge and I felt a little overwhelmed. I opened the scriptures, looking for some encouragement or something.
I read, Mosiah 7:23 "And now, is not this grievous to be borne? And is not this, our affliction, great? Now behold, how great reason we have to mourn."
My situation was so minor compared to the one I was reading about that it actually made me laugh out-loud. Helped my perspective.

TIP OF THE DAY

Do your babies or toddlers wake up easily?
Leave a radio on in their bedroom (tuned to some soft music) and they will sleep much better.
We did this with our kids and they would sleep so soundly that we could even vacuum around their bed and they wouldn't wake up. It works.

TIP OF THE DAY

Don't eat anything in the dark or without looking at it first.
Once I was eating my favorite candy bar, Hershey with almonds, it was half-gone before I actually looked at it. The almonds were crawling with little worms!

Amazing

Check out Karlene's blog -- "Reason To Smile".
She has become quite the professional photographer. Grant used to say that Karlene's kids "are the most photographed kids in the world!" All that practicing has paid off.

Amazed but not surprised.

Sunday Dinner 12-6-09

I'm not going to post the menu because if I did you might not come so I'll just announce that the dessert will be fresh Razzleberry Pie from Marie Callender's (Craig's favorite).
So thrilled about Darci and Jason's announcement!

Friday, December 4, 2009

I do not have a face to see, or put inside a frame.

I do not have soft cheeks to kiss, I don't yet have a name.

You can't yet hold my tiny hands, nor whisper in my ear.

It's still too soon to sing a song, or cuddle me so near.¨

But all will change come July, 3 2010, that's when they say I'm due.

I'm your new grandchild, niece or nephew; I can't wait till I meet you.

All I ask between now and then is your patience while I grow.

I promise I'll be worth the wait, because of all the love we'll know.

So what I have to give you now, is a wish to you from me.

I cannot wait to be a part of this wonderful family.

Christmas Tree

We had a lot of fun last night putting up our CHRISTMAS TREE!! Austin was so careful with all the ornaments and Grandma Olsen had so much fun showing each ornament to Austin and showing him all the details and what they were doing and what they meant! Austin just ate it all up!

Righteous Living

Another obsession has come and gone. Thank goodness I only teach a few times a month! This handout refers to Isaiah 57:20-21 "But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked." So I am giving them a piece of the ocean with actual California sand, Orem water and a Roberts Crafts seashell!

Repelling

While we all know grandma's repelling skills are excellent, this van for some reason was harder to repel. :) So we decided to buy a stool and make it a lot easier! Best money we spent on the trip! (except for the Churros!)

Fall Break!

So for Fall break we went to Disney World. We had a blast! It was great having grandma & grandpa with us! I'm so glad our kids love it as much as when they were little. Only we don't have to stand in the character lines anymore. I really did want a picture of them with Mickey, but they wouldn't stand in line with all the little kids.{humph} We also took time to go to the Orlando temple and do baptisms. It's fun that all four of them do them once a month with Ron now. And I just sit and watch. And I love it!
If your wondering if I had to go to the doctor on this trip, the answer is YES! It's ridiculous how my body knows when I'm on vacation. My family has come to expect it. I got a bad Urinary Tract Infection. By the way, NEVER had one in my life! Had to sit in the dang clinic for 3 1/2 hours with loads of sick, coughing people while my family was having fun! I will never go on a trip again without an anti-biotic, pain pills, anti-inflammatory, you name it!
Anywho, I've digressed. So the kids had a hard week of catch-up. But the term is over now and we can relax some. We love you all!!!!!

Sunday Dinner (9-13-09)

Menu: Ham (Erin Sanderson's recipe), Yummy Potatoes (Brook's favorite), Pretzel Salad (Karlene's favorite, along with several others), Bean Salad, Hot Rolls with home made strawberry jam (Jason's favorite), & homemade ice cream (Grandpa's favorite). And what's my favorite? When you all come!

WARNING

Thursday I went to the doctor because of abdominal pain. Diagnosis was colon infection. I received two prescription for antibiotics. Thank goodness I always read every word that comes with prescriptions. I would be in deep trouble, like 6 feet deep, possible, if I hadn't read the information. One of the medications should not be given with medications I was already taking!

Kristy said she had a similar experience. When she was pregnant with Mayzie she filled a prescription for Lortab and was given something else that would have been fatal to Mayzie!

The message here is to always read the information that comes with your medications.

Handout obsession

I need help. I have become obsessed with handouts for my lessons. I actually read the rest of the lessons I'm giving until 2010 and already have handout ideas. Tom was sweet enough to point out that things can change and I might not even teach those lessons that are on the schedule. Someone help me before I go crazy. Okay, I won't be the one to go crazy because I love this obsession but poor Tom might! Here is my latest handout showing both sides of the key chain. Lesson: Worthy Thoughts (The KEY to a virtuous life is thru our thoughts or something like that). I am not even teaching this lesson for two more weeks. See what I mean?

"R" gang!

Where the heck did summer go? Well, school is in full swing whether we like it or not. It's nice to have a routine again though. The kids all seem to be ok with their schedules. Whitney is busy with Student Council. Brinley gets her expander on in a few days. She's not excited for braces. I'm excited for Fall weather and temperatures. Our computer is fried so I can't access my pictures and it's driving me crazy! Guess we'll need to go pick some money off the tree and buy a new one. (ya, right)

Starts about 4:00 p.m. and ends by midnight.

Great definition

When looking at Stephen's blog I just noticed the following:
"mis-sion-ary, (noun)
someone who leaves their family for a short time
so that others may be with their families for Eternity."
Love it!

Lori's first-ever blog!

Wow, my first posting! But since Trek made his first post (which I loved reading), and Karlene showed me how to get back into the family blog, here we go…The family cabin trip was amazing!!! Thank you Grandpa and Grandma for making such a fabulous experience for all of us! The cabin was perfect, the food delectable, the canoeing wet, relaxing, therapeutic, and fun, the play was fun and entertaining, the IMAX beautiful, the trip through Yellowstone was wonderful with the deluxe treat of seeing a real live grizzly (not a brizzly Grandpa) bear only 10 feet away (OK, so it should have only been 1 foot away if Ron had had his way and not been frustrated by a few maniacs-OK, me- screaming out unhelpful directions), and the time spent just being together-a treasured memory. Words are not enough to express my love and gratitude to you and to all members of our family (whom I love dearly) for helping make it a week to treasure forever!!! I am grateful for all the photos to help with the memories.

I have had such a rush of fun with the Family Quilts of Many Colors! Thanks for your willing involvement in great memory building adventure. You all are splendiferous! And thanks again to Grandpa and Grandma Robinson for helping make it all possible to do it together at your house (ignoring the temporary mess) and Grandma feeding us excellent food-every hour-while we were at it. Plus I loved how Grandpa was always asking the grand children how theirs was coming and showing interest in the results. Every time I leave being with all of you I go through yucky withdrawals.
